bloody alternator again...

I seem to be having problems again, the new alternator is fitted and secure, the drivebelt is driving it fine. I have checked, cleaned and re-checked the electrical connections at the back and they seem to be secure and have a good line to the battery and the case of the alternator has good connection to earth, tested on the engine and chassis.

Symptoms, I turn the ignition on and the charge warning lamp lights at around half brightness, with the engine running the charge lamp stays at similar brightness and the voltmeter stays the same, no change with engine speed. This, to my mind, points to an internal failure in the alternator. your opinions folks please..

I've had so-called "recon" alternators in the past which didn't work.

This was supposed to be new, and had a label saying 'new', looked new too and worked fine for up until earlyer this week...

Check the serpentine belt to make sure it is fed correctly. I've seen trained mechanics screw this up.

It'a an early 110 (1984), the battery is also new and seems to be preforming well considering the lack of charge from the alternator so I don't think it's at fault.
