Bonnet styles..

I have a Series 111 and it has a 'thin' bonnet, as opposed to the 'fat' bonnet usually seen on Series 111. Has it been changed, or is there another criteria used to fit one or the other? (By 'thin' I mean those usually seen on Series 1 or 2/2a)

There have been several over the years and, unless I'm contradicted, all expect the one for the V8 are, I think, interchangable.

Pt.No 330543 2/2a 88" standard (this is the very flat one) 330126 2/2a 88" de luxe and 109" standard (? radiused edges) 330812 2/2a de luxe recessed for spare wheel

MRC2479 3 'plain' MRC2440 3 de luxe, recessed for spare wheel MRC5932 3 V8

I've no idea if the series 3 plain one was as plain as the series 2/2a plain one or whether it was equivalent to the non-recessed 2/2a de luxe.

If your addy works I'll e-mail you some parts book pictures.

Thanks for this, but my question was regarding the reason for each bonnet being chosen for the Series3. I thought that the 'fat' bonnet was an upgrade/style change when the S3 came out and that the thin ones were only used on earlier models. My '81 has a 'thin' bonnet and I merely wondered if it had been retro fitted or was original..

It's a Series Land Rover. Any original parts are probably only there because they've not been damaged or were the closest to hand when it was in the garage for repair. My 1968 Series 2a, before the chassis change, was about seventy percent original by weight. Now it's about a third.
