Bronco Grizzly Claws...?

I'm planning on getting set of mud tyres for my D90.

Wanted SIMEX but price too high.

I wondered about Bronco Grizzly Claws, 265/75 x 16.

Any feedback on peformance, quality, longevity(toughness) appreciated.

cheers

simon

ps Will the spare fit on the door, or will I need a carrier..?

I can't comment on longevity as I've only just started running them (less than 400 miles on them) but:

Quality - they are among the best remoulds I've met. The moulding is pretty good, the pattern is consistent and they seem pretty well made.

Performance: Excellent for a semi-aggressive (as in not pure mud studs) tyre.

I'm running 235/70/16s on a Disco 1

One thing I will say is that on solid surfaces (read "road") they cause unholy vibrations through the steering at 30-50MPH - almost like running on a blowout.

Paul,

Do you run them on the truck all the time, or do you swap to road tyres..? It always seems a hassle swapping, so not likely to want to do that. However, if the road vibration is that bad then perhaps you want to swap..;-)

It's got a set of Pirelli Scorpion S/Ts for day wear. The Grizzlys are only for Sunday Best :@)

Swapping the tyres is 15 minutes work with a jack and a wheelbrace, the biggest problem I have is that the Scorpions are on ally rims and the Grizzlys on steel so I have to keep 20 wheelnuts in storage at any point in time (you can't use ally wheelnuts with steel wheels)

If you're just pottering about to offroading and you're doing less than around 70 miles each way then keep the Grizzlys on by all means, they're not *that* bad on the road, I just don't like what they do to handling at A-Road speeds and I do a lot of milage.

Be warned - they rumble like anything on tarmac. It honestly sounds like the drone off a Lancaster Bombers engines in the movies due to the deep studs hitting the road.

Also, at very low speeds (

I definitely don't get any vibration on my hybrid, so I woul think about checking stuff like balancing etc....

On the road they tend to howl a bit which can be bit annoying on a long run. My Diamond Backs used to do the same. The howl is caused by the open tread pattern. In the wet on the road they can be a bit interesting when cornering hard, but some of that is also due to the fact that my hybrid weighs bugger all!

Done about 4,00 miles on them, and still got 14mm of tread left, 235/85/16's on the hybrid.

I have found them to be more than comparable against Simex tyres when out and about, and have sailed through areas where the Simex tyre shod vehicles have been, and then boasted about how only Simex equipped vehicles would get through!!

Once I have got SWMBO SJ410 finished, guess what tyres she wants fitted to it.....

I've run Dirt Devils, Grizzly's and Simex and the Simex wins hands down - no question (you've only got to go and watch/enter a national winch event to see that everyone uses -Extreme trekkers or Jungles). Yes the Simex are expensive, but you pays your money............ The only downside I found with the Grizzly's was they tended to wear out quicker than the Dirt Devils, I assume that's because the centre pattern on the Grizzly's isn't as solid as the DD's.

not that impressed wit grizzlys, why is the centre tread raised higher than the side lugs? seems to me youve only got however deep the centre treads are depth, not 20 mm. as its 20 mm on the lugs, must be 15 mm at the most. wear that down and your after new tyres.

there was nothing wrong with the dirt devils, wicked tyre, and the fact you could rip lugs off just goes to show how much traction they were giving. not that ive ripped any off, just heard they were prone to it.

anyone looked at greenway remoulds, i think theres some interesting treads there, like the atakata ( or summat like it)

find colways home page and theres a link to greenway tyres

Bronco used to sell the Greenway remoulds (Anaconda ?) but seem to have lost the deal at about the same time that Bronco increased all their prices by between 10 and 20 percent.

I've run the Greenway 235/85's for a while now in some pretty arduous conditions (trials, challenge events and playing silly buggers) and I really like them as an off road tyre with good on road manners. The latest version of the tyre supplied by Colway has bead protection moulded into the sides. Quality is superb, only downside is that they are directional so you either carry two spares or try and second guess which side you'll get a puncture on !

The only tyre I'd swap them for would be one with Simex written on the side :-)
