Any 'Land Rover' per se is infamous for leaking oil... ;-)

I think you'll be hard to find any Land Rover that hasn't got an oil leak.

My 300 TDi had 2 oil leaks when I bought it. Both were due to poor servicing, even though it was full LR history!

After replacing the oir pipe (form the back of the air filter) with the right one and doing a propper service, it's been leak free ever since.

Sun roofs leak water now. Guess they have to leak somewhere.

I know a man who can build engines that don't leak oil!! Unfortunately it costs quite a bit, but the last one he did is still 'clean' after 9000 miles, bit of black magic in there somewhere :0)

( it was a 200tdi )

Had my '97 Disco 300 Tdi since September '03 and done 6500 miles so far with no oil leaks at all ... even though we had a full 60k service, including timing belt mods etc in this time .. ;)

Used about a litre of oil, topping up, altogether which in 6000+ miles isn't bad for _any_ car and bloody marvellous for a Landie .. Our last Series 3 used about a litre (maybe only a half litre) every tank full ... ;)

His 30 odd year specialty is rover V8's :0) But I'd advise you to sit down before I tell you the price.....

£5000 a pop + engine + parts........the 5k is just for his time.........evidently it takes between 350 and 500 hours work to ensure they are oiltight, something called 'blueprinting' the engine I believe :0)

94 300 tdi with no oil leaks at all! just the leaky rear sun-roof when it rains hard.

Skippy didn't at one point.

Of course at that point it didn't have any oil left to leak.

You mean the front one doesn't send you a dash of cold water down the back of your neck when you go round a corner as well?

There is a fix for the leaky sunroof in LRO's Jan 2004 issue p194.

Dunno if it works mine doesn't have a sun roof but here it is..

Basically the fella there found that after the rubber seal pulls away after it icing up or sticking in the summer , the double sided tape which holds the seal in place had been pulled away when the sunroof is opened. He cleaned it all out with meths and applied a thin bead of transluscent silicone bedding compound sealer to the gully and closed the sunroof to hold it all in place until the silicone cures.. After its cured he opened the sunroof and applied talcum pwder to the seal, or vaseline to prevent it sticking again.

Hope this helps.

I'd not use vaseline - it rots the rubber seal. Talc would probably be fine.
