Disco 1 Interior lights dont!

Hello One of the job-ettes I have to do on the disco I recently bought is to get the interior lights to! Glove box, front interior, rear interior and boot all prefer the dark. Fist problem is identifying the correct fuse as the handbook doesn't mention the interior lights. The Haynes manual says they are on F8 with the rhs side/tail, but the wiring diagram shows F6. RHS side/tail work OK and are truly on F8 because I pulled the fuse. I'm suspecting an open circuit somewhere downstream of the fuse and would like to know which fuse to trace from. I suspect the OC is near the fuse as I guess there will be a terminal there that sends the feeds to all of the different lights. Any takers please?? BTW what acually is the "multi function unit" and can I get a circut diagram of it anywhere? Cheers Graham PS Hello Austin :-))

PPS It's a 1995 300TDI with the main plus two satellite fuse boxes by the drivers knees and another fuse box under the bonnet.

it's probably turned off somewhere. could be the fuse though, although I'd have expected that to take something else like clock or other miscellaneous stuff with it. The book's out in the workshop so I can't look right now; however, the fuse cover has a list of fuses if you can decode the little symbols. The fuses for that sort of thing are by the driver's knees, it's the big sods for alternator and glowplugs and suchlike that are in the little box under the bonnet.

I doubt they're on the same fuse as the sidelights.

The interior lights certainly *were* working, I didn't notice TBH if they were when you came to collect it.

They have a delay and a slow fade-off which is probably what the multi-function thing does.

Have you been fitting a Radio unit?

Mind - it could be the Land Rover Gremlins having fun with their new owner :)

Mine played similar tricks just after I brought it home.

I haven't but Austin changed the radio back to the original. Was that a random question btw??

I could imagine a Land Rover having a sense of humour.

Not a "feature" I've seen before, how would that work then??

could be the fuse though, although I'd

I think I'll have to try a continuity test on ALL of the fuses. There are quite a few aren't there? The clock is a bit of a mystery as whilst it displays *a* time, it doesn't exactly tell *the* time - in so far as it's in disagreement with all of the other timepieces in my life. Theoretically it could be right and all the others be wrong, but on the balance of probability ......... Seriously, there could be a clue there, though. I was wondering as I was driving it to jbex this morning if the clock is being de-energised when the ignition is off, I'll have to check the circuits. Also, the heater panel is not illuminated either, another possible clue.

The book's out in the workshop so I can't look right now;

I'd have needed to have spent a bit of time at Bletchley Hall to manage that feat!!

The fuses for that sort of thing are by the driver's knees, it's

Does seem improbable I agree, but stranger things have happened at sea. I used to go there.

No problem, an 11 year old motor with the word "Rover" in it must be expected to show character......... I do enjoy a challenge and if lacking / contradictory info in the manuals is part of the game then so be it. However I would not feel cheated is somebody were able to identify if F8 was the correct fuse by pulling it on a car with known working interior lights :-))

Good point, and maybe a clue as the investigation unfolds.

Finally, I've really enjoyed the motor since I picked it up and have not driven my regular car since. I don't usually enjoy 4 wheelers either, they're just boxes to transport me and my toys.

Not sure - that was the only recent work when our interior lights went bananas - ridiculous symptoms IIRC the lights wouldn't operate if the radio was on - or maybe the other way around. In any event, all working now and although it was only a few months ago I think I've filed it under 'too wierd' as I can barely remember what happened.

However, a few days later - almost all the interior stuff stopped working completely - we found several fuses had blown and when replaced all was working as it should.

I do believe they have several - some reserved for special occasions.

No, no press F8 at the right time at boot and you'll get the alternate boot options.

Anything is worth a try. I pressed it and nothing happened. Perhaps the bulb illumination on switch is the problem? Graham

Yup, when I put on my best glasses and looked really hard I found that it was the satellite 2 (upper satellite) panel, fuse 6 had blown. Replacement brought light! This is a 20A fuse and according to the blurb is tha trailer light fuse. I'm classing this as progress but am prepared for the fuse to pop again and to search for a short to ground somewhere. It's your hard drive. Try parking it on gravel or sand or something softer. :-)
