Disco Carbs

Hi,

89 Disco normally runs on LPG, decided to run on it on petrol today, it would not start it seems to be flooding, looking a the carbs while the fuel pump was running and petrol was dripping constantly from both Carbs, I can't see where it is coming from but it was all round the base of the carbs.

Should it have a fuel regulator in line to reduce the pressure??

It normally does run on petrol but a bit rough, probably due to timing for the LPG I guess

Any advise would be great.

Thanks Mark

Carbs dry out when run on LPG alone. Gas has no lube, so it's best to always try to start and end a journey on petrol to keep the carbs in good working order.

I had a really bad time with SU carbs in this respect, kept having to have the engine cover off and fill the pots with oil. Sorted now, but the few occasions where the engine died whilst switching to petrol (like the M1-M25 busy junction, and whilst going into the arena at Billing in 2003) were not only embarrassing but actually quite frightening!

As Mother said, don't run soley on LPG if you want a duel fuel vehicle!

Do you have overflow pipes on the carbs, if so check to see if they are piping vast amounts of fuel away. You'll really need to have your carbs cleaned/new gaskets to get them working correctly again.

On or around Sat, 12 Feb 2005 14:34:57 +0000, Mother enlightened us thusly:

SUs are a pain in the arse, they gradually lose the damper oil. 'specially if you have those vacuum piston-lifters on 'em.

with the EFi ones, I tend to let it start on petrol, get out of the yard and then let it auto-change on the 2nd-3rd upchange; thereafter on the same day it gets started on gas.

The problem with carbs is that you have to run the carb petrol level down 'til they're mostly-empty in order to run on gas.
