Discovery Heater Matrix

I have just sprung a leak in the heater matrix, main evidence being a soggy carpet, soaked in coolant.

I have taken it out of circuit using a bit of 15mm copper tube, i was 100 miles away from home when I noticed, so did a quick bodge which is likely to stay for a while.

My question is, how much of a pain in the arse job is this to replace. It looks like one of those jobs thats gonna take forever, fiddly bits left, right and centre. How much will a garage quote for the job? Looks like you have to rip out the entire dash board and bits.

Any hints?

Did my 1990 Discovery last year - very easy but the dash had to come out which was a pain and took time. I spread it over 2 half days.

Pretty much a complete dash out job to do properly. If it's a pre-MA Discovery you'll want to dismantle the fan motor and grease the bushes at the same time because if you haven't burnt out your fan control switch then you most probably soon will. I've done a couple - very easy, just time consuming.
