Engine Noise V6, Whining Noise when hot

I have a 2002 Freelander w/51000 mi on it. I just had the Radiatator recovery / oveflow container replaced and a new noise has shown up, When the car warms up to opertating temp a whining noise starts from the left side of the engine.

I had a mechanic look at it on a lift & he said it might be the oil filter making the noise.

Never heard of this before, but can anyone suggest what may be making this noise.

Checked the belts & Altinator & no noise there.

Thanks Wayne

Well I've heard of rumbling wheel bearings , rattling tappets , clicking CV joints and blowing exhausts. However a whining oil filter should certainly be a thing to behold. Surely the noise has to be a bearing or belt or other rotating part as a result of overtightening. Simon

Not had a TD5 then? The centrifugal oil filter on one of those can make a helluva din... Does this "V6" have a centrifugal oil filter?

ISTR that the OP said that the expansion vessel had been replaced. It could be the cap or one of the connections leaking just a tad and "whistling" in the process.

Thanks Dave; I will check the fittings, this just started a few days after the dealer changed the expansion tank.

The belts havent been changed receintly and the pullys / bearngs dont seen to be the culprit. As to a cenrtifugal oil filter I dont think that this is available on the V6.

Thanks Aga> >
