Engine swap from injection to carburator

Does anyone have any experience in taking out a 3.9 injection in my Range Rover '94 (automatic) and putting in a carburator 4.4 Rover engine (P76 Leyland). My garage seems to have some problems with sensors as a heritage from my injection engine (or motor management). I thought I just could kill all regarded electronics and drive a nice carburator engine. Please reply if you know anything. Thanks in advance for all your comments.

In theory, it's a fairly straightforward process.

  1. remove all EFI gear, including fuel pump and EFI harness, complete.
  2. remove old engine.
  3. fit new engine.
  4. fit carb type fuel pump and plumb it in.
  5. sort out feed to coil and distributor (keep electronic dizzy if at all possible)
  6. sort out new kick-down linkage for autobox.
  7. fill with fuel and play.

If your garage can't handle it, maybe worth finding one that understands what is involved and knows what they are doing. Badger. B.H.Engineering, Rover V8 engine builders. Landy 110 3.9V8 Auto, on gas. BMW 330dSE Sport auto, on something!

Dont forget you'll have to pass a '94 emissions test , will it do that with a carb? steve the grease

A quick google shows the P76 Leyland as Australian built between

1973 and 1975 so if you can prove that the engine is a '73-'75 then it's a visual check only for emissions (assuming your in Britain) I don't know the MOT laws in OZ
