So let's see:-

No MOT - mmm - so many thing to put right - dont risk testing it

Noisy Tappets - could be knackered engine

Rear half chassis - rest of it looks like like a tribe of termites moved in.

Only good thing seems to be tyres.

I think I will give this one a miss.

Bit harsh - for £550 you have to be realistic about what you are going to be able to buy. It's almost certainly a can of worms - any £550 motor will be but if it's a runner it's possibly a very good project for someone with the time and the skills.

Bit harsh, eh?!

A replacement 2 1/4 petrol in good running order is worth somewhere about fifty quid, the front of most 11a is normally preserved by the automatic total loss lubrication system, it's had a little care and attention shown judging by the new steering parts and fuel tank, has road legal tyres, but best of all is the fact it's a 71 - looks IMO so much nicer than the S3 with its metal grille, and it will save you

170quid+ per year compared to a later S3. Five hundred quid sounds like a fair enough price, even if it does need work done for the MOT. Pictures would of course help provide a better idea of what kind of series shed we are talking about though....

I agree having just sold my tax exempt 2a/3/defender ( a proper bitsa) for £1800 on ebay it sounds king cheap, mine did have galv chassis pairabolloxs and a td engine however but saying that padocks are doing 88" galv chassis for under £700 these days.
