Fuel tank leak

Hiya, Got a prob with a Range Rover classic type, does anyone know of something that can stop petrol slopping out of the fuel filler when going round corners, Already tried a new seal on the fuel flap itself, also extra rubber seal on top of it between the lid & flap, but still leaks, the fittings look ok, & I'm really thinking about an aftermarket product to fit in the filler neck, which will throw the fuel back down, something like a flap where the petrol pump at the garage will push it open to put the fuel in but stop it returning when withdrawn.

Any ideas?

Cool - I'm not the only one! :)

Tennis balls are too small to fill the hole without loosing them into the tank. ;) A flap is a good idea I never though about. I'll look into it too.

When you changed the seal on the flap itself, did you undo the screw a few turns to make it stick "out" further? Didn't help me, but I have a feeling that my filler is slightly warped, and that's why it won't seal.

Here's hoping for both of us eh?

No just changed the seal, I'll look into that one. Thanks One other thing is my father's new Zafira had a spring flap built into the filler tube, wrong size for the rangy though.

I even tried pushing the old rubber seal into the tube to see if it would deflect some back. No go.

I'm lucky I use lpg, but like to keep a quarter of a tank in reserve.

If the part is still available, I might consider replacing the whole thing. Having had the front jacked up for about a month to replace the steering box, the engine wouldn't start. Eventually traced it to the large quantity of water in the tank (1/2 gal?). It can only have got in via the filler surely?

Tried your suggestion with the adjusted seal, but no go, I'm going to try and make a seal using silicon & either copper grease or something similar onto the filler neck, so the sealant sticks to the rubber seal only

Worth a try
