Grrrr! Part numbers mixed up.

Today I topped up the water in the 110. I checked the rad too and it was nicely full. Though in reinserting the brass plug in the top of the rad what ever seal was there began to disintergrate.

Went up to Landranger and they sold me an O ring

It's too big!

I've just had a butchers on EPC and it suggestes

Do these part numbers equate to size in any way?

how frustrating! (Insert rant of choice here).

Would PTF tape do the trick as a get me going or is it a none starter? It's got to be sorted properly but the 110 is in demand at the mo.

Find an engineer's merchants and get one of their assorted boxes of O rings, either metric or imperial flavours - mine only cost about 10 quid and its so bloody useful for all sorts of seals.

Good plan... I'll bear that in mind.

I've now got the two Ronnies sketch stuck in my head.

"Got any O's?"

Or if you are near a Poundland the box they sell has fibre and plastic sealing rings if you have gone the brass route should be fibre Derek

Yes, bear as in "carry", rather than "bare it in mind" as in "imagine it nekkid with food all over and lashings of chocolate sauce".

Looks ok to me so presumably it's an antipodean bear.

Thanks Ian..seriously, one less to ask the Mrs. :-)

And back to the origional topic. The proper doofer if believed by Landrover parts guru to be a felt washer. It's no longer sold so you have to get a replacement plastic bung instead of the brass one. This is because the plastic bung has a recess to stop the rubber o ring being spat out when the bung is tightened.

Glad I discovered that little gem on the drive and not 800 miles away.

Brass bung anyone?

The plastic bungs are s**te and break of their own volition once they get old. Either use a fibre washer on the brass one or get a groove turned into it to take the o-ring.

Had the same problem a few weeks ago, got a new O ring but seemed much too big, fortunately checked it in the car park at Rockingham Land Rovers befor I left. Took it back in and they explained that the "bung" had beeb superseeded for one with a grove and it was available in plastic or brass. Went for the brass one, cant remember exactly but it was about £1.80 I think. Have found Rockingham Land Rovers to be excellent.

The brass ones should have a groove for the O ring already.
