Had one installed in a Fiat Barchetta 1.8 lt, 16 valver that I used to have. It actually made some difference in fuel consumption but a marginal one.

On a Discovery 200Tdi that I had it installed in made no difference at all.

Take care Pantelis

Very different concept - the Hiclone is a passive device which sits in the air intake gear and is supposed to interrupt the airflow to make the air & fuel mix better. The K&N is a complete filter system & has a lot more potential to actually work.

I've heard mixed reports about the Hiclone. Not sure I would buy one but feel free to persuade me otherwise.

Will let you know if I go down that route, after I've fixed the heater....thank god for DLS

Cheers. Like I said, I dunno about the Hiclone .. ;) I guessed from the name that it was some kind of re-circulator or fuel mixer of some sort .. trading on the 'cyclone' theory I guiess .. ;)

Yeah .. I don't have one myself, but it's what I would do given the need ..

Heheheh .. ;)

Just checked their website and while they certainly have a 101 and various other Land Rovers pictured there, what they don't seem to have is a price guide .. Just loads of promises and testimony ... and an order form .. I'll pass on trying it out I thinkl. ;)

Went to D&R Landrover in Halifax, he was selling them for arround £60 I think. He had a demonstration thing that showed how it made the air spin. But it still didn't convince me to buy one:O)

Chuffin' 'ell .. Looking at it, it looks like a small stainless vane, like you find in washers, or on the front of hairdryers, made to do a similar thing .. think I'll have a scout around and see if I can find something similar. Might be worth a try fitting one that's made from scrap, but £ 80 .. they're taking the piss.

Looks like a good idea, mind, and the more I think about, and recall my aero and fluid dynamics the more it does appear to be a sensible 'thing' .. Their claims for extra horsepower and economy are a bit on the high side I reckon, though ...

Well, if it does what it says (increases performance and economy) then it's good value. They're pricing it for what they claim it does, not what it costs to make.

A few people have tried it and reported positive results, both anecdotally and through proper testbed equipment. But others say it's all in the mind. Does anybody remember those absolutely stupid plastic squares you were supposed to stick on your hifi to make it sound better?

If you want to see some real snake oil, take a look at the electric turbos you can buy - built from a CPU cooling fan and sold for £400. Anybody know where that website is? You know the one...

There's nothing at all new about centrifugal air cleaners. I used to run a combine harvester which had one, and it reduced the dust intake to the actual filter enough to make a big difference to the useful life.

And that can improve engine performance a little, over the life of an air filter.

The actual design is a little subtle, and it's probably best stuck at the top of a snorkel.

The HiClone isn't a cleaner. It's an agitator that gets fitted between the filter and the manifold somewhere. It's nothing more than a set of blades fixed in the airstream at an angle.
