I wasn't clear. I want to know what this specific Land Rover's original color was. I'm wondering if it was/is marked on the vehicle anywhere. It's a Series IIa 1962.

Series 2a did not have paint codes marked on them anywhere. Probably would have been on the delivery papers, but this won't help you. Not sure when they started to mark them, but I think it may not have been not until 110 production started, but may have been as early as late S3 production. S2a were only supplied in a very few colours, depending on market - I think here (Australia) you got Bronze Green for 88s and Grey for 109s with all hard tops limestone. Large buyers (such as armies) would have been able to specify colour, and special purpose vehicles such as fire engines would have had their own colours. JD

I realised that after I posted, sorry :)

The slow version could be to ask for a certificate from Gaydon, that should show the spec of the vehicle as it rolled off the production line.

Don't know what the telephone code is from au.

Land Rover will tell you the production date and which dealer it was sent to:

Eric Pagan, Senior Engineer, Traceability Systems Land Rover Group Ltd, Lode Lane Solihull B92 8NW Fax +44 (0)121 742 0738

Anyone know if Calvin tells you the colour from the vin?

Probably the best place to look is under the vents on the bulkhead - very unlikely to have ever been repainted, and tend not to fade either.

When I rang up Land Rover recently to enquire about manufacture date they were able to tell me original colour over the phone, just needed the chassis number.
