Interior for 1989 90SW

Just about finished rebuilding my 90 station wagon. The previous owner had covered the interior sides and head in crappy carpet, unfortunately held on with gallons of carpet glue. The carpet has to go, but theat leaves very unsightly yellow glue all over the rear cabin.

  1. any idears how to easily remove this?
  2. Any one know ready-made lining to cover this?
  3. Should I simply replace with more carpet??!!

Angus Hi,

Removing old glue is VERY difficult AFAIK.

in relation to your second option (ready made lining) I would propose you have a look here:

If you plan to cover it up again and use a similar glue it hardly matters.

Some gentle heat (hot air gun) may soften it sufficiently to allow you to rub it off with your thumb. A long process!

My recollection is that some solvents work, but the tendency is just to spread a sticky mess further. Possibly the best solution once you've removed the bulk by other means.

You could assume that it's Evostik and try the manufacturer (Evode, now part of Bostik-Findley) for ideas.

and look at the About Us/Locations page. I'd suggest trying the Leicester address first.

White spirit works on some glue's. I've used a combination of one of those paint scrapers that has a blade on it and white spirit to remove various sticky stuffs in the past.

If you start hunting around some of the specialist shops you can find stuff that will take it off for you, we have a similar problem in work where the boats we import come in with miles of shrink wrap and tape on and the sticky stuff is a bugger to get off. I know Auto Glym do a "Tar and Film Remover" that we use. Spray on and leave for a few minutes and then scrape off. Works a treat!!

Just found some on the Towsure website. =A33.45 for a bottle. This should work!
