Morrisons & Tesco unleaded

For those of us that aren't diesel just heard that there is a problem with Morrisons and Tesco's unleaded petrol in some parts of the UK. Causes false reading by the oxygen sensor and the engine shuts down. Hundreds of people are affected so far.

Some of the reports are already blaming added ethanol.

Which, as a biofuel, is going to be a big market for the farmers which the supermarkets don't already control.

Unless the car owners are frightened away.

I'm only frightened away from Tesco! Only buy thier fuel 'cos I'm in there for food. Forty quids worth sloshing around making me nervous!

I suspect there's a tide of people trying to surf a wave of compensation, leaping at the chance to blame some problem or another on "contaminated" petrol.

The latest I've heard is that it is probably too much silicone, which is used as an anti foaming agent, in the petrol causing problems with the sensor. One engineer said it would usually cause a white deposit on the sensor. Sounds like, drain the tank, purge the system, change the sensor, and refill with proper petrol. Not £1,000's as some seem to think. That said, they will probably run out of sensors.

Yeah, it'll be caused by solar flares next ;-)

When I changed the oxygen sensor on one of my cars, it cost me £80 and took 15 minutes, so someone's making a killing somewhere or there are a lot of cars with poor design out there. Perhaps having to dismantle large parts of the engine to reach the sensor, past posts in here have suggested such daft design isn't uncommon.

Some kind of report is due out today, hopefully it'll provide more than just entertainment.

Na, it'll be smokers - we're responsible for *everything* bad.

Curiously, the AA discovered the silicone problem yesterday morning, but last nights news programs all insisted that nothing had been found. Perhaps TV news peope should try Radio 2 for a bit of up-to-date info!

It'll be interesting to see how many Ford and VW owners try to claim - the AA say those vehicles are unaffected (presumably they would know, as they havn't had to go and recover any, well not for that problem).

Non! (another French chrarteristic I rather admire!)

If it was sent after dinner yesterday, then quite likely. Before that it's quite likely in the pile of 1's and 0's behind the computer due to last Friday's "excitement"....

Or the Pug 406HDi that broke down because of Tesco petrol. Another wonderous claim.

1 year, 9 months. . Thing is, I don't feel much healthier for it, have put on weight despite excercising more, and my moods are really messed up.

My chest is much clearer and I have to say I do feel better. I've also lost a stone and a half since November. Mind you, having had a kind of Final Written Warning from the Doc has given me a modicum of motivation.

Ah, mine was through choice. And I smoked rollups, so didn't get the wheezy chest, before or after quitting.

I'm still glad I did for the upsides, even without side effects for me personally.

Funny, that. I smoked straights for years and never had a cough. Rollies used to give me a cough like an old man in a bus shelter after a day or so.

Oxygen sensor? what's one of those for?

Not a problem with an old motor like mine, sadly everything else is though.
