MOT Point

Does anybody know if having a missing plastic sill finisher on a Discovery is an MOT failure?

I'm fitting a set of rocksliders and while the drivers side one went on nicely the nuts on the outrigger bolts on the nearside decided to round, so I'm going to have to get a new set on Tuesday when my local dealer re-opens and drill off the old ones.

Problem is that I've got a car with one rockslider and one missing finisher which is in for its MOT on Tuesday.

Ideas/opinions/abuse?

P.

It isn't structural, so as long as there are no sharp protusions to injure pedestrians I cannot see why it would be a problem.

Wouldn't have thought so as its not structural.

Tim,

I see you are making a radical change to your vehicle line up too....

Soon to arrive at Brownlee Towers is a new RR3 Vogue.....

Oh my word, what have I done?

Be assured that within 1 week it will covered in stickers, the underbody armour will be ordered and I'll be trying to figure out how to lift it....and put bigger tyres on it. Oh and it had better forget what polish is.....

Aye, really did fancy a run-out Discovery (the ES Premium is very nice) and Mandy said I could have whatever I wanted. But viewed objectively they are really quite cramped (especially in the back) and running costs are unnecessarily high given the use I have for it. I just need a 'prestige' vehicle for big motorway cruises and short-haul trips with the dogs.

Waiting for the new Disco was an option, but it is very very new, as is a lot of the technology that is making it. Maybe next time...

The price and quality of good estate cars was a bit of a revelation. The 5 Touring was a big contender - quite well equipped for a BMW. I don't like Audis very much and both local Mercedes dealers make me want to vomit.

The Volvo won it on comfort mostly - it's as comfy as my sofa and has a very nice cockpit - purely functional and well-enough equipped. I was actually looking for a new car, but got almost 10 grand saving by getting one 10 months old. And that is from a franchised dealer.

The best bit is that Mandy has said I can give the proceeds of the Discovery sale to Warren for 101 and Series 2 bits!

On another subject (as I seem to have totally hijacked this thread - sorry Paul), has anyone used the SmartNav system from TrafficMaster? It looks really good and won't require me to hack my dashboard apart or give Volvo 2 grand plus for their system retrofitted.

Well, I do envy you, and I think I must be in the wrong business... got any jobs going? :)

You're right about the "life's too short" thing.

Take the other one off? Quite possible that if the missing one isn't noticed then an issue can't be made of it, even if it were OK. How well do you know the MoT bloke, might be worth asking him first, he may suggest options for you to do before the test and save you the bother of going back. Then again, are they allowed to do that?

All the best

Crumbs... How many bits can you get for a 101 and S2 in exchange for a pipe and pair of part worn slippers?
