Odd starting issue.

A few times the TD5 Disco wont start, everything seems fine, I let the lights go out & that. Try to start & it just sounds like the starter jams. Try a few times & it still jams. Put my battery booster on today & it started fine, so I don't know if the battery is knackered or not. The battery does look a bit small in the battery compartment. Why would it make this jamming type sound, there's no clicking like mad or anything else??

Nige uttered summat worrerz funny about:

Take it to a good (not quick fraud type) Battery sales place and ask them to drop test it. This isn't a wind up and contrary to my own suspicion when I was first told this does not involve dropping your battery and then telling you you need a new one. They short circut the battery and check the voltage drop at the same time. If it's goosed this will show. May also be worth while checking exactly what battery should be there before you go.

A big one. Mine came with a battery that was much smaller than the space available, and didn't last long. Replaced with a proper one that fills the gap and it's been fine since. Raining, so not able to give exact specification. :-)

and don't buy batteries from halfrauds, on principle. Last time I went there for a battery, they kicked up such a fuss about the fact that I wanted a large spec than their list said (065 instead of 063) for the car, and how they wouldn't guarantee it. morons. I happened to know that the battery tray in the car was designed for several sizes, and the 065 would easily fit, and had more capacity. Sure, the car *will* work on an 063, but I want a bigger one.

I blame Kermit the Frog when the amphibian decided to end his show it left a lot of muppets looking for work now we know where they went. Better on the the whole than certain tyre/service enterprises who offer a free 'safety check' to gain often unecessary work I prefer the proper mechanic ( then again I would ) who would point out a potential problem and suggest you might get it sorted when convenient to the ' I wouldn't want to be driving that' attitude of a tyre fitter. with 6 weeks experience.
