Oh what a Lemonrover!!!!

Over the last three years my Lemonrover Freelander has spent more than 7 weeks in a Landrover workshop in Sydney, Australia having parts replaced under warranty. To date, Landrover have replaced the steering, front brake rotors, airconditioning, engine manifold, auto gearbox, tyres and number of other fittings due to manufacturing defects. Oh, and a door was resprayed after a mechanic gouged it with a screwdriver.

Last week I finally managed to resolve all of my Lemonrover issues. I sold the heap of crap and took delivery of a new Toyota Kluger. However the Lemonrover did have the last laugh, I took a $12K loss as a trade-in as the wholesaler would only give me around $18K for a three year old Freelander, but it was worth it to just get the car off my hands. Oh what a feeling!!!!

I take it you're not a fan of LR, you'll notice this NG is. Bloody amazing warranty though if they replaced all that. :-))

Traditionally we British have sent all our useless crap to Australia, started with the people and seems to have finished with your Freeloader. It's a hairdressers car so I assume you live around Kings Cross Sidney!.

A few months down the road he'll be moaning in a 4x4 / Toyota group. Did he not read any reviews of Freelanders? I assume he just jumped on the 4x4 bandwagon, and is now regretting his first choice, but has been bitten by the bug and is staying with a four wheel drive vehicle.. WTF is a Kluger anyway? I am just sorry he feels the need to vent his anger on this NG. Maybe Mr.Walters your next posting should be..."My Toyota is a piece of crap, what is the best 4x4 for nipping down the shops?" People on this group are fans of Landrovers. We almost all accept that LR build quality is questionable, we know they are expensive, I for one don't look upon Freelanders as 'proper' Landrovers! I don't mean to offend anyone who has a Freelander and is happy with it. We don't need to be told of one persons disaster with his car...we know all about things like that, but we still love LR's. Three years really is a long time to put up with a vehicle that you think is 'a piece of crap'!

Exactly;y! I hang around here as I love Land Rovers but due to the fact they are a little 'temperamental' & I just couldn't find one in anywhere near the condition of my Trooper. I use mine for travelling major distances. The best bit was that the Trooper is in A1 condition, but the first thing it did was blow the head!

My aims are for a Range Rover in two years time once work gets more established!

My Mini was so bad that It was in the garage for 27 days out of 5 months!!!! I did the right thing, I got rid quick!

Moaners like this cockspanner do bog all for NG's & really look like trolls to me!

So that explains the letter I got from a long distant relative explaining why he was sat on the beach throwing shrimps on the barbecue and I'm freezing my nuts off in wet and windy England :)

When I go bush, I want a number of things

-water

-food

-reliable simple navigation

- fuel reserve

- vhf

- reliable character with route and ETA

- as SIMPLE a mechanical conveyance as possible

- fix problem with a big hammer, a few rocks, rock, kick it, locals can bend it in a hot fire; not .... a bloody computer

I've done 'em all, LR will do for me, that's why I'm here in this NG Real 4x4's are agricultural by nature and are not understood by the likes of Ken Livinstone ( UK audience ), toys are the crap that Top Gear give idiotic hype to ( UK again )

Oh well, in the last nine months my landie has needed the propshaft repairing (after it dropped off) a new fuel pump, two replacement doors, a complete set of new seats, a new dumb iron, a wiper blade and sundry bulbs and will soon need a new mid pipe, (only for the MOT though).

I guess a clutch cylinder may be on the list eventually as well as something is leaking somewhere.

Not too bad for a thirty year old, I don't think I would ever buy new, because you have not had the benefit of someone else seeing it through the initial problems after which everything should settle down.

As for the bodywork if someone gouged it with a screwdriver that would be the least of my worries, she ain't pretty too look at. Part of the charm though, seeing as where I live it would not be long before someone did sommat nasty, witness my recent repairs, due to joyriders using it for target practice..

On or around Sun, 11 Jul 2004 13:48:13 +0100, "Wolverine" enlightened us thusly:

Mind, it does sound as though his one was particularly bad.

'course, things fail more readily if not maintained correctly, and it might be that he entrusted that to the garage... I've seen plenty of garages who're not to be trusted with such.
