Oil for 1990 RRC transfer box

Thought it time to do a bit of lube changing (or adding!) on my 1990 RRC V8 auto.

Silly question (probably):

Does the transfer box _really_ use ATF rather than engine oil? The answer is probably in the autolocking, rather than manual, centre diff.

Just thought I'd check before I buy loads of the wrong stuff - a little over 9l of ATF for the autobox plus 2 and a bit litres for the transfer box is a little startling and suggests that I won't be buying it in those little plastic bottles

If the transfer box does use ATF then best part of 3 gallons of the stuff is going to make a sizeable wallet dent methinks.

Also which is better: filling the swivel pin housings with liquid lube (EP90?) or using the one-shot grease packs? No idea what they are called but noticed that my 1988 RRC came back from a service with serialised labels stating that some type of grease had been installed in the housings.

TIA

Thanks Marc

Have discovered that 3 galls of ATF will set me back £40!

Not sure where you are buying it from but I sell it for less than that through the workshop.

I'd expect to pay quite a bit less than that - IIRC 25 Litres of Morris ATF was around £30-35 last time I needed it in quantity. If you've got a decent farm supplier near you then they're often a good source.
