Oil in the wiring loom

Hi All

Has anyone ever heard of a problem with early TD5's where oil manages to get into the wiring loom around the injectors and eventually gets to the ECU? This has happened to a friends TD5 and I just wondered if it was a known problem and how I could check to see if my Defender would be susceptible to same problem and if I can prevent it? If it is a known fault can I tell from the chassis number if mine may be one of affected TD5's

Regards Phil

Yes. 1999 Td5 suffered but was fixed early 2000.

Phil,

Known *warranty* issue ;-)

If this is a known warranty issue does this mean that after 5 years you are stuffed if it happens to you, or can you goto Land Rover and ask for them to sort it out?

Thanks Phil

Dunno bout these modern landies the young whippersnappers are driving these days but my in my series oil gets everywhere, thank goodness I don't have an ECU whatever that is :)

You might be lucky. When the alternator fell off the head on my Scenic, Renault put TWO new cylinder heads on ! For free 3 years after we bought it. There was a recall which didn't get sent out. The dealership which sold the car had no record of ever having sold it to me....

Talk about generous, not only did they let you off nicking the car but they fixed it too.... Any chance they can take over Landrover?
