That specialized certainly looks like a nice bike. Within the same price range, all the bikes will be pretty much even, although personally i would probably go for a trek. just bought a Trek touring bike and found there attention to detail very impressive. But basically comes down to personal preference and how well the bike shop put the bike together.

Apart from jealous ones you mean?

;)

Personal opinion is there's little to choose, but I would go Kona. Every time I've ridden a Kona they've inspired confidence but also feel very quick. Last Specialized I rode was a Stumpjumper and it felt a bit front heavy. If you're shelling out this much you probably know your stuff anyway, but get a ride on each of them first, if you can. I'd also see if I could get wherever I bought them from to swap tyres for whatever your personal favourites are, at the price these go for they ought to ... ;)

Have fun.

I sat on a bike that i really really liked yesterday. Perfect i thought. No price tag though... I asked.

£5 grand!

You could get a defender for that much!

You'd think for that price you'd get the two?

A grand. A bicycle. Or a nice MoT'd roadworthy S3?

One has an engine. One doesn't. One is a Land Rover. One isn't.

Apart from the fact that the bike probably has better suspension, it's a no-brainer.

Like Motorbikes, I suppose they all have qualities you can only determine from actually riding. For the price of the two in question, surely a test ride would be available? Personally I like the Specialized, but my only experience with them are their excellent BMX bikes. Wolverine.

Myself and a few other mates all have Trek's. Mine is a cheap model and does exactly what it says on the tin. My mate has got a Fuel 90, fully suspended all singing all dancing thing and after having a go on it, if i did alot of mountain biking i would almost certainly buy one of these.
