Deep ends on how many axles, and whether it's one lump or more. Three axles on one lump limits you to the weight stated, though. For the full weight, you need five or more axles spread between two lumps.
There are axle weight limits, too, and they don't say whether it's a couple of tons over or a couple of hundredweight, or even just a few pounds, all of which will stop it getting a ticket.
"The book" is a thick one, and ideal if you're an insomniac.

Try living in London, the LEZ (Low Emissions Zone) will ban fire engines and ambulances that don't have anti-pollution gear fitted. They don't mention police vehicles though.
