overheating

I am some what in a quandary about an overheating problem I have on my 200 tdi disco when going down the motorway at 60 mph in temp indicator reads normal when going 70 mph it creeps up to 3/4 if speed is maintained the overheat light starts to flash ( not good I suspect) have flushed the rad and block changed the thermostat for one opening at 82c cleaned the rad fins with hose pipe, no water leaks, head gasket intact etc any ideas, noticed it on way to Bristol last week weather was hot about 22c temp came back to normal when slowed to 60 mph !!! its still the same after carrying out the above, water pump ok and rad is not blocked internally

I had this for a while on my 2.5TD, and it seemed it was a blockage in the engine block itself, I managed to clear it by using some twin bottle rad flush from Halfords, leaving it in for 24 hours , and driving it about (while worrying about what it was doing to the hoses), and flushed it out about 4 times.. IE emptied, refilled, ran 30 mins with the cap off, and repeated 4 times.

This cured it once and for all, but mine had pretty much the same symptoms as yours, and I did all the flushing as U did.

Have you changed the rad cap? Also, how do you know the water pump is ok?

temp indicator reads normal

Is the sensor in the engine working properly. Have you checked that all the fins in the radiator are intact. Have a visual check of the outside middle of the radiator and see if there are any holes. It won't leak, but the fins fall out. Yours Gmacz

Don't rule out poor injectors. Due to incorrrect jet of fuel being injected to the engine they cause hot spots on the pistons and will show as your symptoms. Ultimately this will result in a hole being melted into the Piston and catastrofic engine failure as the oil gets sucked into the cylinder and blown straight down the exhaust (if your lucky) or the engine racing away on it's own quite liteally running on the oil.

So... in short, worth getting the injector pattern checked / new injectors.

It could be a problem with your injectors this can cause the engine to run hot or there could be a problem with your sender. A good diesel specialist will test you injectors.
