P38 Door Latch & (sigh) Air Suspension

Hi

Help needed on two problems.

1: Nearside front door. The cable that operates the door catch from the inside has snapped at the lock end. Easy repair? or does the lock need to be removed?

2: Air suspension. Can take ages to fully come to normal ride height. Also the system is confused, the dashboard indicator says the suspension is at normal height but the vehicle bounces like mad then after ages it pumps up to normal. Once up it's OK for a day or so but then gets confused again. Could this be a ride height sensor problem or does the system need re-setting?

The two front air-bags have been replaced and I am told there are NO system air leaks.

Any help/advice on the above greatly appreciated

Martyn

BTDT. It's a simple repair, but fiddly. No need to remove the lock, just replace the cable. You'll have to get the door trim off and then it's just a matter of wiggling the new cable into the lock actuator and handle at each end. If my experience is anything to go by, check the operation of the handle several times before you put the trim back - it has a habit of popping out of the attachment to the handle, and needed a bit of adjustment with pliers before it would seat properly. Beware - the door trim is heavy and if you've damaged any of the trim clips you will never get it back right. Either use the correct tool to remove the trim, or budget for half a dozen new clips to replace the ones you snap.
