P38 exhaust - a pleasureable job indeed

These days , its not often that I do a job on the P38 that I enjoy. The old dear failed the MOT on a duff exhaust and dodgy brake pipes and after getting a decent price on an exhaust i was set up to do the job. And do you know what? it went exactly to plan. Hour and a half to do the twin system and that included 20mins getting the wrapping off the new system! For anyone about to replace the rear exhaust on a P38, might be handy to know that the single and twin system are interchangeable from the centre silencer, which is that same for both rear systems. I should have saved a few quid and replaced the twin with a single but it didnt seem right somehow. Only the brake pipes to do which the local garage is going to do for me and hopefully we should be away again!

Only one thing though, i was mildly annoyed when i had spent =A3170 on an exhaust and they couldnt be bothered to include a clamp. It'll have to hang there for the time being.

How is it connected to the centre silencer? I have one to do too. Is it a clamp or bolts through a flange?

It only went easily because you had all that practice on mine.

It's one of those loose two bolt moveable flangy things. You know the type, the ones that dissapear up the pipe when you're trying to do em up. Two 13mm nuts. The flange to the centre silencer is just in front of the rear axle up towards the tank. Where did you get a complete twin system for 90 quid? Christ! Mine was 138quid plus vat plus delivery. You will need a clamp to, er, clamp the two bits of exhaust together i think its going to be around 60mm or so. I havent got one yet so i'll let you know if you like. Thing is, the Rangie is in my bad books again. The MOT runs out on Friday so had organised for it to go into the garage to which I entrust all the work that I don't want to do. They phoned up an hour after I dropped it off and said they couldnt do the job. Apparently doing the brake pipes on a P38 is an absolute bastard and they didn't want to / couldnt do it. So i'm in the position that i'm going to have to do it myself now, f*ck nows how long that's going to take. I'm glad that the workshop is finished now and i haven't got to work outside anymore. apparently Range Rover brake pipes are buggers, I'd take a very very close look at them when you get under there to change the exhaust. Mine were "dangerous" apparently. Dave

Or it might have been a genuine part, and the reason for it being more expensive and also why it fitted properly.

Mine's genuine, but a single pipe. I haven't tried to fit mine yet, but I'm hopeful it will fit OK.
