A quick question:  Would an inlet manifold off an SD1 be a straight
swap for a P38 (GEMS) one & would the P38 plenum bolt onto the SD1
manifold or would the original have to be retained?

Cheers,
Chrisall.

NO

Would you care to expand on that?

A quick question and therefore a quick answer.

Although the manifold will very probably bolt to your engine OK  and the
Gems plenum could possibly bolt to the manifold, the rest of the
manifolds fixings will be wrong.

Sensors are in different locations and could be different threads. The
SD1 has an extra air valve and the gems does not, The coolant pipes are
in different places and different configurations.

What are you trying to do?

You need to expand the question.  The answer's perfectly good as you asked
it.

GEMS is way different to the SD1's injection system though, which was
probably a lucas flapper system like the early injection Rangies, although
I'm quite prepared to be corrected on that.
