What a load of pish they are spouting about a balanced view being taken, the rot has truly set in. Virtually all the lanes in Yorkshire have gone, seems the Peaks will follow.
I hate this country

Clearly I'm missing something, they're proposing to close several lanes to protect them from damage, OK, but to what end if the lane is closed who's going to benefit from it not becoming damaged?
Seems to me the proposed closure provides no benefit and thus is merely because they can!

the bloody ramblers. who will clodhop all over it and do just as much damage only more widely spread, that's when they're not roaming all over the pasture and buggering that up.

A friend of mine has *just* got his visa to allow him to enter Australia, it's taken him close to 2 years to get it, and that was under the "person of distinguished talent" or whatever it's called scheme, of which they issue less than 5 per year IIRC. He flies out to Singapore on the 24th December and arrives in Oz on the 25th! He's got family out there already, which also helped. I don't know if NZ is any different but they don't like those pesky foreigners in Oz, which is ironic of course, as they don't like those pesky natives either ;-)

NZ makes it a bit easier. If you meet enough criteria you are automagically invited to apply for a work permit/residency. After that so long as you pass the medical checks, police checks and suchlike it's pretty much an automatic process that can be sorted in the space of a few months. Even the bloke that we had to offer a job to (under the rules about not being able to fill the position locally) only took about
6 months, most of which time was spent awaiting verification of his qualifications and lack of a criminal record. The fact he's turned out to be about as much use as a chocolate teapot is a fecking nuisance as we are obliged to keep him employed for 2 years.- Vote on answer

... as a window cleaner earning $2 a month. That should have the desired affect! :-)

We're considering opening a office on a Pacific island somewhere (Fiji maybe) and sending him there to run it. It won't save us anything but it'll get him out of the way so we don't keep tripping over him.

That's what we thought of him too, hence sending him to NZ ;-)
