I don't think anything short-term was predicted from climate change as it's a long-term trend analysis and prediction thing spanning thousands of years. There's apparently a fundamental difference between predicting changes in climate on a global scale and predicting weather on a regional scale, sort of like predicting the behaviour of an individual versus the behaviour of a crowd or an entire country, two very different disciplines with expertise in one not really translating to the other.
On or around Thu, 10 Jul 2008 22:31:21 +0100, Ian Rawlings enlightened us thusly:
global warming = more energy in the weather systems = more extreme weather, more or less.
Mind, I wouldn't mind a bit more donner und blitzen, I do like a good thunderstorm, and we don't seem to get many.
We had one here last weekend, it hit a house a few doors down.
My TV is on the blink now too.
Our office got hit last year. immediate casualties were a network switch, a couple of PC's, the PABX, an ADSL router and assorted small electrical items. Later casualties have included the burglar alarm developing a personality disorder and a fire alarm that needs Nige's input - it's now become a random alarm generator.
About 8 years ago, just before we moved here, a house over the road from our old house got a direct hit. It wiped *every* bit of electrical equipment in our house & next doors. It even blew some speaker cones etc.
Even the telephone gotr fried.
That was a big insurance claim i can tell you.
