LRO give 19-26 mpg for the IIa 2.25 diesel, against 17-22 for the 2.25 petrol. That's about as good as you'll probably find. My 109 2.25 petrol (which I believe was over heavy on fuel) typically managed 12-13 mpg, and about 16 on a long run.
I used to own a LWB 2a diesel. Mostly mid twenties but on one trip from Coober Pedy to Port Augusta did an incredible 36. Probably flat, steady, and kept the speed down. JD
With a Series III 2.25 diesel with an overdrive fitted I can get 27mpg on a run. Obviously less pottering about town etc. Cheers
