Rotton Boot Floor on a 93 Discovery

Just noticed on the discovery i brought a few weeks ago while doing a few jobs for its mot that the Boot floor seems to be rotton when looking from the underside. Is this a definate failer on the Mot or is it just the chassis that has to be 100 percent sound ?

Can i get a replacement panel to have welded in ?. Also just behine the rear bumper there seems to be a couple of large rubber washers mounted between the boot floor and the chassis and the moutings for these seem a bit rotton.

Hi Chris, AFAIK the boot floor is not an MOT item as it's not structural. You can get replacement ones from your local dealer and it's not too difficult to replace if you're handy with the welding rig.

The rubber mounts you mention sound like the body mountings. Not sure if they're an MOT item but I'd replace them anyway or the bosy may start to go in different directions to the chassis :-)

The boot floor can be replaced prices vary for a new floor from about 40 to 60 quid, it is not a definate MOT failure because it is not a structural part of the vehicle, but if I were you I would get it done. As anything heavy placed in the could be pressing on the fuel tank which is right underneath. And if yours is a seven seater the supports for the seat may go throught the floor if anyone heavy sits on them. i have just replaced mine it was not to dificult at bit messy getting it out, if you are capable, traet yourself to a spot weld drill bit cetrepop the welds and drill them out, there are quite a few. You can get away with popriveting in the new one and get someone to just tack weld it around the edge. make sure you seal it well before you start to rivet it in. As for the large rubber washers I am not sure what you mean there are some plugs on either side of the bootfloor these are just blanking plugs. But you made need to make a plate and have this welded if the area that has corroded has spread further tahn the floorppan itself. Best of look and don't dispair its not as bad as it may seem. Trust me I've been there.

Lifted the carpet up in the disco and the floor panel in the boot is completly gone from the rear cross member by the door to where the panel that slopes down to the rear passenger floor is. Looks like its just contained to the boot floor panel and the 2 small side trangle shaped ones between the wheel arch and boot corner.

Also the cross member next to the rear door seal has a hole in it.

underneath this cross member there is another one which can beseen from under the car which has a couple of brackets on it that have a large rubber washer between it and the chassis. Can these 2 cross members be obtained easy ? or replaced easy ?

Cannot see any sign of pop rivets along the edges of the floor section ? are they not just spot welded in place instead ?
