RR 3.5Efi Died today - help

The Rangie has just died.First time it's done it. Was coming home, and it conked out. After much cranking, during which it fires a bit then dies, it ran. About 30 seconds later it stopped again. Now it cranks, starts to fire, idles about 200rpm for about 10 seconds then stops again. Keeping the starter running and it just repeats the process. Refuses to run up.

Anyone got any ideas?

Which version of the engine is this? The one with the flapper type air valve or the hot wire one?

It's a 1989 3.5 Efi, with the Flap-type air flow meter.

When cranking the fuel pump gets its electrical supply from the starter solenoid circuit.

Once the engine is running (sensed by the air flow meter) the switch in the air flow meter completes the circuit to the fuel pump. It sounds as though this circuit is not functioning. First of all check the plug at the air flow meter.

I collected the circuit and an explanation for someone else some time back - send me a good e-mail address and I'll send you a copy.

I havn't, I've only had it a couple of months. Perhaps Richard will answer that one......

Might have a spare on the shelf, one of the things I'll be checking tomorrow afternoon. Once I've dragged it back to the workshop

fuel pump?

sounds like lack of fuel pressure. I had a hotwire disco exhibit these sort of symptoms.
