RRC Diff Lock - How does it work? Also Air -v- Springs

I test drove a RRC Vogue 200tdi yesterday, which was in very good condition, even the tailgate !

One thing I did notice was that the curry hook didn't have the diff lock details on, ie push to the left to engage. I've figured out that this is normal for RRs, but how does the diff lock work without a button?

And is there anyway to test it works on a test drive?

Also I didn't notice any buttons for changing the air suspension, so could it have been a 'spring' model from new? Is there anywhere anyone knows where you can get the specification list for old models? It's a K plate.

Cheers,

Gavin.

It has a viscous coupled diff in the transfer box which requires no driver intervention. Most likely it had coil springs from new. Sounds like a nice vehicle.

It does look nice, and it's a 200tdi from new, another good point !

Thanks for that,

Gavin.

The high/low lever doesn't move to the left thats why there's no marking on the top but watch out for transmission wind-up on full lock as the viscous couplings do seize up, it won't be much of a problem but it will unnecessarily load and wear the C/V joints so if this happens get it fixed pronto.

Oily uttered summat worrerz funny about:

Never had any problems on our last RRC with Viscous coupling.. hear lots of rumor but has any one actually had one fail on them?

Spent lots of time sorting multiple issues on a Diff lock on a 101 though, yet they don't have such a bad reputation. Weird in'it. (Don't panic Nige - sweet as a nut now :-) )

I have, the VC went on my rangie, although the xfer box went at the same time, so it made getting them fixed a bit easier (new ones for both at the same time)

Only noticed the VC had gone because of the transmission windup in carparks

Yes I know of three, and mine did exactly that, you could feel and see the tyres jumping when on full lock, there was no give in it at all. I suppose it would have been worse if I hadn't got a matched set of tyres. I had plenty of spare boxes about so I put an earlier transfer box in, one with a proper lockable diff.

Have you been ripped off? The V/C is *in* the transfer box.
