Series 2 - new front axle?

Brought Stig home today (Series 2, 88"). He goes well with the new engine, but the front axle is very noisy. Swivels are rough, frankly, and the front axle as a whole looks like it could be the one it left the factory with 49 years ago.

Warren's view is to get an axle from another vehicle and refurb it, then fit it to the truck. Does anyone out there do exchange axles on this basis? Getting one from a breaker then fannying around with it is going to be a pain in the arse I'd be happy to avoid.

Any thoughts?

Tim Hobbs uttered summat worrerz funny about:

Well last time I queired it when building Percy up all those years ago I was quoted £40 for an axle, my target was more along the lines of the 11 inch brake drums though so I doubt that included the diff, going rate then seemed to be around £45 for a diff. Then you'll be wanting new U clamps too. I ended up with a pair of Stage One axles as the rocking horse dropping fairy was looking down on me that week.

I don't know of any one specifically that does axles but LEGS at Oswestry quoted me £500 to £750 to sort the 101's front Diff, maybe not the cheapest course of action.

The likes of Craddocks / Paddocks may be worth a call as they often advertise axle cases NOS though it's a while since I've seen a series one advertised.... then again it's a while since I bought a mag at all.
