Wheel tracking etc, who's best?

Any advice on who to use to get the RR wheels alignment checked. Are the ATS, Kwik Fits etc ok on these or should I look for someone more specialised? Notts area if relevant.

Thanks

It's mostly down to the individual who does the job. Some are great and will adjust properly. Some, quite frankly, would make a mess of pushing a wheelbarrow.

resistance, whats

Bit of a waste four wheel aligning a Disco because nothing is adjustable except the front toe. Unless you suspected a bent axle or chassis.

But surely its better to have both front wheels aligned (including toe out) to the parallel wheels at the back for minimal rolling resistance? I maybe wrong?

Of course its better if you know before hand that your chassis is not twisted, nor your rear axle/stub axles are bent before you have 4 wheel tracking done.

It is much simpler than you think. The front wheels need to be near parallel with each other as specified by the toe figures in the manual. That is the only reference you need. There is only one other adjustment on a Discovery and that is the length of the drag link from the steering box which is not very important.

As long as both track rods are adjusted equally when a toe adjustment is made, then the steering wheel remains centred. There is no adjustment on the back axle and no adjustment possible between the front and back axle.

There is absolutely no point in doing a four wheel alignment on a Discovery or other live axle Land Rover since there may be much slop in the leading and trailing arm bushes anyhow and in any case, there is NO adjustment. to be made other than the front tracking which can be an independent operation with no detriment to accuracy.

dunno what the book says, but I've got the 110 set up with the tracking parallel, and it seems to work.

If memeory serves, its 0.5' toe-in - so parallel is jsut as good allowing for errors, that's what I use anyway.........

The info in the manual is very good for setting the tracking. I used the given measurements when replacing track rod ends and got the tracking spot on - much to the surprise of the people at my local (independent) tyre suppliers who do know how to set the tracking on a RR. Email me if you want more details.
