Wish Me Luck...

MoT on the Lightweight this morning.

I have a niggling doubt about the brakes -- stops in a straight line but they feel unduly heavy. Nothing obviously wrong with the servo, but I wonder if a couple of cylinders are sticking -- one each side.

Wish me luck.

Good luck, but I'm a tad suprised. If it were me and I had any doubts about my brakes I'd want to check that they were ok as it might be me who got killed if they failed.

Even worse - it might be me in front of you when they fail :(

I know what you mean, but the checks that they do don't always match the checks that you can do. Though under the new system it can't go on the rollers -- the vehicle weight isn't in the computer -- and they had to use the Tapley.

Anyway, it didn't fail on the brakes. Maybe it's just my right leg has fewer muscles than it used to.

Um, it might be worth having the drums off and checking the brakes. LR's with twin leading shoes can pass the MOT despite having one cylinder on each side siezed. Particularly if it's got a servo as well.

I have spent the morning rummaging for tools with this in mind. Bank Holiday weekend, so there's a limit to what I can do -- if I should need parts, or twist something off, that's it until Tuesday. At least I don't depend on the LR.

On the other hand, I can at least let the penetrating oil soak in. But I haven't seen the big bloody screwdriver since we moved.

Never do brake work on series vehicles on a b/h weekend unless you already have a set of spare wheel cylinders, brake pipes, unions and bleed nipples.

If the shops are shut, something is bound to strip or twist off. Usually a bleed nipple....
