1996 ES300 replace taillight bulb

I have a 1996 ES300 and I would like to replace one of the taillight bulbs. Do I have to take off the exterior plastic lens that covers the bulbs or can I replace the bulb from inside the trunk? If I have to take off the lens, how do I do it?
