Free Navigation system upgrade for 04 vehicles?

According to the supposedly authentic Toyota notification to owners of 04 Toyota Prius cars (see below), Toyota is providing a free Navigation system map DVD upgrade, because of numerous errors in the 2004 maps:

26 Since the Lexus vehicles use essentially the same Navigation system as the Prius, it would seem logical that Lexus owners would be entitled to a similar upgrade. Has anybody with a Lexus received a Limited Service Campaign notice entitling them to an upgraded map DVD? My 04 ES330 map DVD has numerous major errors, and I'm wondering if Toyota is going to give Lexus owners the option to get updates, too.

EXCELLENT question. My 2004 LS430 has the same errors. The NAV works great for intersections, but home addresses are off by at least half a block.

OK, I called both Toyota and Lexus and Lexus says that those of us with affected vehicles will get notices of the DVD update sometime between now and the end of this month. So it's happening.

Just brought in my '04 LS430 to have the snow tires put on, and they gave me a free DVD upgrade while they were doing the service. Didn't even have to ask.

I checked with Toyota to see if my 04 Highlander was part of the "recall". I was told that only a limited number of Highlanders built early in the year were involved.

What about those who purchased the NAV DVD upgrade? Can we get a free DVD upgrade as well?

I bought a 2003 GS 430 back in July of 2003. In October of 2003, I bought the latest NAV data DVD which came out at that time. I presume it was this DVD that is defective? Is there a specific version of the DVD map data that is defective? In other words, is the DVD warranted, or the vehicle?

I called the Lexus dealer last week, and they told me that some 04 ES330s were eligible for the DVD update, and that I would be notified by mail if mine was. I pushed them to run my VIN through their computer, and they determined that mine was indeed eligible. They ordered the disk, and it came in several days later. It is a MAJOR improvement! All the roads in my newly build community are now in the system, and erroneous "make turn here" and "make U turn here" commands that used to pop up when driving down the interstate have disappeared. A new feature also appears to be added: It now displays POIs at upcoming highway exits in the area of the right side of the screen that shows the upcoming turn list while one is driving to a destination. You can touch any of the exit numbers (while driving) and it will show you what POIs are there (e.g., gas, food, etc.). Incidentally, I've yet to receive the official snail mail service campaign announcement from Toyota/Lexus, so it looks like this might be a "stealth service campaign" -- only for those who complain about the problems with the old DVD.

That sounds like a big improvement.

Nope. I just got my notice in the mail (2004 ES330). Just haven't acted on it yet.
