Great Post From The Mercedes Board!

I have had my current 98 S500 for a couple years and it has now about 90K miles. It has been basically problem free for me except the radio antenna (motor) and a few minor issues. I've also had a 93 500SEL before this one. I've had some problems with it. The other MBs we had, ML 320, C280 all had more troubles when we owned them.

I've had two LS400s during the same time I have had the S500s. The LS400s are amazingly reliable and comfortable cars. No problems with them whatsoever. All you do with them is drive them and change oils.

I didn't write it. I copied it from a Mercedes board to show how bad those cars have become.

Yah guyz - but look at the oil tank on the Mercedes. It is 9 gallons or 9 quarts - whatever. That is bigger than the Lexus by quite a bit, I think. The really important thing is that you never have heard of oil gunking up and turning into some sort of gluey crap like it does in the Lexus engines!!!! So the Lexus is going down the same path as Mercedes - so don't laugh too hard. We had to dump our 93 ES300 at only 75,000 miles cause it was too noisy and the tranny went out. After fixing it the wife just didn't trust it anymore. So now we have one of the 2000 ones that get gunk after a few miles!!!! GREAT !!!!!

You are probably the only person in the history of the world complaining about a Lexus.

Yep! Only person in the whole world to complain about a Lexus. RONGO BONGO BRAINO !!!!! Lots of people complain about the oil sludge alone!

Actually, the number of people complaining in this ng can be counted on the fingers of one hand. There has been talk about it, but very few Lexus owners here have actually had this problem. The people who are having sludge problems AND have maintained their engine according to manufacturer specs AND were able to show some sort of documentation are even smaller in numbers.
