Lexus throttle delay issue - lag - drive-by-wire - accellerator delay

This really needed it's own thread.

I just bought an ES330 2004. It has the notorious lag. I'm getting used to it but would pay to have it fixed. Are there any after-market fixes?

Try this. Push the throttle all the way down from the start. Do this five times. Computer seems to adapt you are aggressive and this goes away. I do not have that issue.

I disagree with that approach, that will only serve to confuse the computer even more. Lexus has no fix for this problem, and there are no aftermarket workarounds yet. There have been several people posting on this topic for at least the past couple of years, it's turned into a well-known unresolved problem with the Lexus ES series.

I took our ES 330 to the dealer 2 days ago for this problem. They reset the computer that remembers driving habits and did something else that I wasn't clear on. The improvement was immense. The problem just went away. My wife drove it yesterday and I didn't bother to ask her if it did it again because she never noticed it to start with. We will see if it starts doing it again. I will post long term results.

I'd sure like to know if you could find out exactly what they did. One of the frustrating things about all auto dealerships is how they sit on information that could help many car owners. I think the manufacturers encourage this approach, as they don't want problems to be identified as widespread, just isolated occurrences.

Yes, the transmission in the ES330 "learns" the driver and adjusts to his/her driving style. From the Lexus website: "The ECT-i computer also has a limited ability to adjust for wear in the transmission and even to learn and respond to a person's driving behavior (based on the resulting engine input conditions)."

I read somewhere that if you disconnect the battery for a while, the car's computer resets to the defaults.

I would be very interested if you could elaborate on this and/or find out more information about what the dealer did to your car.

Please do. Thanks.

I will call the service dept. and while complimenting him on how much better it drives will ask again specifically what he did to help out a friend with the same problem.
