Replacing Nav sys with radio

I have an es 330 2005 with a built in Nav system. I am having problems with it and asked the Lexus dealer about removing it and installing the Basic radio for this model. He claims it cannot be done. Any opinions? if so, how can this be done. Is there a site I can get this information. Thanks
