RX 300 Driveshaft hanger bearing

Does anyone know of a source or repair service for this? My local fix-it guy says he checked and its only available from Toyota as a full replacement driveshaft assembly.... $800 ... Ouch !! Anyone ever have the center bearing replaced? It seems that shouldn't be hard to do. Should it? Or how about a rebuilt unit?

Why do you want to replace the bearing?

Have you tried a junk yard?

The drive shaft runs from the transmission to the rear axle. About half way back is a hanger bearing assembly. That is worn and makes / causes a vibration when driving, especially noticeable when starting off under heavy acceleration or when pulling the boat. I was hoping there would be a way to replace just the bearing without having to replace the entire driveshaft assembly.

If you are really in a bind, check your local bearing warehouses. Give them the dimensions and the load requirements (e.g., drive shaft) and they should be able to come up with a suitable replacement.

A vibration or shudder under heavy acceleration or under a load can be caused by bad or out-of-phase U-joints. Obviously, the only way for a U-joint to be out-of-phase is if someone disconnected the drive shaft and reinstalled it out-of-phase. I doubt if the center support bearing is causing the vibration because the vibration would tend to be worse at higher driveshaft RPM than when starting worse, and you would probably get noise from the bearing.
