Why was I deleted so quickly?

I had a question about an oil change and tire rotation. I want to thank the one person who answered me (and basically confirmed the service rep's opinion), but I think it STINKS that my post was deleted after ONLY ONE DAY, after I waited 2 days to be put up on the board (I know I posted on Saturday). What's wrong with leaving me up there for a while, so that more people can respond. I see that other groups have 900+ responses. (Since I have WebTV, I don't know how easily I can post to any other groups.)

Your post still appears in this newsgroup to those of us with proper news servers, and it was posted Saturday. If your WebTV service doesn't have it any longer or waits two days to show it, that's their fault, and has nothing to do with this group.

  1. This isn't a "board". It's a newsgroup.

2.Your provider (or subscribed newsfeed) sets the retention limits. Each provider sets their own retention limits. Mine is a minimum of one year. Obviously, yours isn't.

To the person who said it was WebTV's fault that I wasn't posted so fast, I received a message as soon as I was posted that said "Your message has been posted. It will take some time to appear". I don't think that was WebTV which responded so fast. As far as the remark that "if you had a proper newsreader, you'd still be able to read it" I say, I posted on May 31. I can still read posts on alt.autos.lexus from May 21. If it's my terrible WebTV reader, why is this true? The only explanation is that it is not the WebTV reader, but your administrator/group/board/whatever. I have also posted to other newsgroups through this WebTV reader, and my posts have stayed up for weeks. I posted recently, for instance, to a newsgroup on houses/real estate, and my posts stayed up for weeks, and I got a number of informative responses. What I want to know is why I was treated this way.

uh..Anthony honey......there *isn't* an "administrator/group/board/whatever" (sic) to an alt.* newsgroup.

Then why am I being deleted so quickly? Other posts from as early as May 21 are still up, and my post is no longer there, even though I posted on May 31. I'd be grateful to whoever could explain this. The reason I'm bothered about this is 1) I didn't get a chance to E-mail the answer to myself (and thus save it); 2) I didn't get to benefit from the advice of others in the newsgroup.

Good grief, learn a bit about Usenet before flinging accusations. (Hint: ) There IS NO single administrator or group of administrators on Usenet; it is a distributed forum with tens of thousands servers around the world, each under independent control. It's pretty unlikely that those tens of thousands of administrators have conspired to delete a message from Anthony Mills.

In addition, alt.autos.lexus is an unmoderated group, which means, uh, that it's not moderated.

Now please apologize to all the nice people.

There is no board. This is Usenet.

Just did a Google search of messages posted to alt.autos.lexus by anthony mills, and found only three: the ones where you're complaining about being deleted. Found no evidence that your initial inquiry ever got posted. Best guess: it never made it past whatever news server is used by WebTV. Just a guess.

Do you understand how Usenet works yet?

You aren't.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. I read my initial post (with one response), but it was only up for one day. As to the person who said I need to learn Usenet, I've been using Usenet (through WebTV) for about

10 years, and have never had this problem. And as for the semantic remarks as to whether this is a board or a post, I just post, and hope to get a response.

There are posts from May 22 still on this NG. My post is from May 31, and it is gone. Where is it?

Very sorry about the confusion; I just found my message (and the response).

i honestly don't know if my original post was there all along, and I just didn't see it; I do know that I should given my post an original name (as I usually do) instead of just leaving it at Re: Lexus oil change interval is only 5000 miles? This may have made it more difficult to keep track of the post.

Much thanks to you, Ray O; at least YOUR response was constructive and helpful. I especially appreciate your remarks about oil viscosity and tires. BTW, I wasn't able to access tirerack, com using WebTV, but I'll try soon on a computer.

As for the rest of the group, I do appreciate the Wikipedia reference from St.John Smythe. I'll read it sometime.

You're welcome!

I know nothing about WebTV so I don't know if there is a difference in web sites that you can see with it as opposed to a conventional computer with internet access. By the way, it is tirerack.com with a period (.), not a comma (,).
