1.0 Corsa timing chain

Soon to collect a 1997 Corsa 1.0 with a slight rattle from the timing chain. Is it anything to worry about or shall we just ignore it?

Is there an adjuster that can be "adjusted" or easily replaced or is it a much more major job of replacing the chain.

TIA for replies and happy new year.

Many people get the same fault on the three cyl. engine, caused by insufficient/incorrect oil changes the tensioner gums up and the chain wears. next it wears through the water pump. it is a 650 quid job in a dealers. parts are about 150 for chain tensioner and guides, the engine needs to come out. Rattly cam chain is the reason people get rid of them.

Well known problem on the 1.0 and 1.2's esp the 12v's - if the cam hasnt snapped before the chain stretches and lunched it! (oh and VAG's 3 pots too- hmm!)

Anyhow, can be done with the engine in not too bad. You may need to replace the crank sprocket also. Some had cam sprockets that are NOT keyed to the shaft.

If it is otherwise ok, DO remove the cam cover and carrier and re-torque/angle all of the bolts, as this is the cause of snapped cams.
