Air con in Ranult Laguna

Hi,

I am having Renault Laguna 1.8 Patrol car. It seems that the aircon in this car is not working i.e. it is not cooling the car. What I been adviced that I have to charge the aircon with somekind of gas which cools the car. How far is this true? If this is true, then is it possible to charge this gas at home by myself withour going to mechanic.

Thanks

Regards,

Just take it to an AC specialist, they'll refill with the correct weight of gas (refrigerant gas like a domestic fridge) and check for leaks, should be around £60-ish. Alternatively you could spend £50 on a refill from Halfords but the odds are it'll just leak out if you don't check the system for leaks.

My local Renault main dealer is offering an aircon check for £25 which sounds tempting - until I realise it is £25 just for a _check_, they will probably wag their heads over the state of the the condensor, charge £350 to replace it, then another £50 to re-gas.

You don't say the age of your car - if it is only a year or 2 then you may be OK, but my Renault is a 7 yr old, the aircon worked OK all last summer. This summer we put a bit of gas in, it leaked straight out, so I'm not going to even think about spending any more money on it! Hope you do better! Lol
