Air distribution switch inoperable -Vx Omega

The rotary switch for the air distribution has stopped working on my Omega

2.5 v6 1998. It only blows on windsereen now where ever the switch is turned ie nothing from air vents or to the footwells. If anyone can help with this problem I will be very grateful. I have a Haynes manual which says these functions are vacuum operated by a unit behind the glovebox somewhere but before I start tearing the car apart as all functions are gone I`m thinking the main vacuum feed to this unit must be disconnected somewhere. The car recently had a water leak repaired -it was the plastic valve for the heater hoses which also has a vacuume hose connected. Been back to them qnd they they say the problems are not connected. I only noticed the air distribution switch not working after they replaced the valve. Could they have left a vacuum hose off somewhere? Anyone got any ideas where to start .Thanks in advance, regards, Michael PS crossposted to free.uk.cars.vauxhall

Any leaks on the vacuum system will give poor performance of the heater controls, as well as the intake trunking flapper valves, which are also vacuum operated. It is possible that they left the pipe off the new valve, but what would be the point of replacing the valve and not connecting the vacuum hose back on to it? The purpose of this valve is to shut off the flow of coolant through the heater matrix when 'Cold' is selected on the heater control. Another more likely possibility is that they have disturbed some of the other vacuum connections when replacing the valve. On the top of the inlet manifold is a rectangular black plastic box which is the vacuum pick-up from the manifold. There are a number of pipes coming off the back of this. This is the first place I would check, listening for sounds of an air leak with the engine running.

Thanks Anthony. I had a closer look and found an vacuum pipi dangling loose cant see where it connects to but its obviously the cause of the problem. I`m taking it back to the garage who done the water valve , regards , Michael.
