Any advice on what to get with the cost of fitting in mind to.

Also how easy will it be to change manual locking doors over to remote locking and unlocking

Then connecting it to most alarms will be much easier!

Rather than spending the £200 buying an alarm, why not buy four more Ford Orion Ghia 1989 1.6i's?

The chances of someone nicking all of those has to be very small :)

(sorry couldnt resist :)

You're joking aren't you? I had one once and every bugger tried to nick it - didn't help that the locks seem to be made out of plasticine! Fortunately the would-be twockers concerned were particularly inept :o)

To the OP - don't bother with an immobiliser, just invest in a decent steering wheel lock, and if you can be bothered, bolt a small machine screw through the door lock retaining clip so they're at least slightly more difficult to prize off by punching a hole through the paper-thin door skin. And buy some of those stickers that go round your door lock to cover up the holes from said theft attempt.

Sadly, old cars are becoming increasingly vulnerable as newer cars are getting harder to steal.

I'd go further than that. Most are impossible to steal by the average joy rider unless they get hold of the key. Of course a pro could just trailer the car away.
