Need new tyres, and found Avon, Goodyear and Pirelli at local tyre fitters at different prices, but which is best? I have no worry paying £10 more for a better tyre, but I might be just paying for the name. Are there any websites that compare tyre performance? |P
There's a trend in agricultural circles for very large (and by very large I do mean very large) tractors to have rubber tracks now instead of tyres. I suppose you could call these cat tyres..
A google on cat tyres has indeed turned up a cat tyre centre!

And some tyres based on cat technology ...
Bionics: From nature to technology
Cat's paws and spider's cobwebs
When optimising the distribution of tyre forces on the road, our tyre engineers oriented their ideas on the wonders of nature.
For the tyre's contour, they took the well-known model of the cat's paw used for the ContiPremiumContact and advanced that technology with the aid of extensive test procedures. A cat's paw widens when the cat brakes, thus transmitting more force to the ground than it would if the cat were walking, or in our case, if the car were driving normally
I've run Avon ZV1 the grip wasn't great and after 12,000 miles all 4 needed replacing due to side wall deformation. All credit to Avon they did refund for a manufacturing defect (based on remaining tread of about 60%) but it did take 6 months. I replaced them with Goodyear Eagle F1's (3rd gen) and the difference in grip was noticeably much better though they were a bit noiseyer.
I prefer having some more come back that you get online, one of my wheels threw the balancing and it's much easier to pop back to a local garage than try to get the mobile fitting service back out.
