Baffling and Drop Links

Hi Guys,

So, different garage this time. The rattling exhaust on my 1994 Nissan Primera, is because the Baffling is gone, and I need a new middle section on my exhaust. So at least I can get that done under warranty and I wont use that guy who told it me the cat was blocked and the exhaust was leaking at the flange before the cat ergo I spend £200 on a new cat to have the same problem.

Of course, I can't remember what's under my car, but I didn't think it had a middle section??? I thought it was front pipe, cat, back pipe. Oh well.

But I also have a suspension problem. I was turning left the other day, under somewhat high speed but also heavy braking, sharp left turn, and the car sounded like it bottomed out (but no obvious marks underneath).

Turns out both front drop links need to be replaced. Does that sound like a likely culprit? There always was a lot of clunking over and uneven surface, but I put that down to normal Nissan noises, but I did get worried with the car sounding like it hit the ground.

Incidentally, with regard to the MOT, Baffling, and Drop Links, do they constitute part of the MOT checks?

Cheers SImon

You can get a new cat for a Primera for about £100, not £200.

Drop links shouldn't cost you much and is not a big job to do. Yes, they are part of MoT, as is the exhaust.

Well, it was £200 for the Cat inclusive of Fitting. That was the cheapest quote I had. Five year guarantee on it.

Droplinks cost me £105 in the end - for both sides, inclusive of fitting. Quiet as a normal car now. Im quite happy.

But the problem with the blocked cat which cost £200 to replace because it was causing the flange before the cat to leak a month ago or so, wasn't actually a problem (or at least wasn't causing the rattling). Its the baffle that's gone in the middle section that's causing the problem.

I do see a middle 'silencer' type thing, but I dont see any joins.

Cheers Simon
