how do i remove the service light/ spanner reminder without going to a main dealer and getting them to do it for me ?

How do you propose to service it, if you don't know something simple like resetting the service light ?

Hold down the trip reset button while you switch on the ignition. Hold it for a few seconds and it will remove the reminder.
